The ceremony featured a full color guard salute as family, friends, and community leaders gathered to celebrate the honorees. Each received a commemorative plaque in recognition of their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to protecting Jacksonville’s residents.
Firefighter of the Year – Engineer Brandon Gambill
Engineer Brandon Gambill was named the 2025 Firefighter of the Year for his courageous actions during a May 4, 2024, residential fire on the northwest side of town. Assigned to search the second floor, Gambill located a trapped victim within minutes of arrival and, with the help of fellow firefighters, removed the individual from the burning home. His quick action and decisive teamwork saved the victim’s life.
Paramedic of the Year - Captain Brielle Barnhill
Captain Brielle Barnhill was named the 2025 Paramedic of the Year for her leadership of JFRD’s Coordinated Opioid Recovery (CORe) program. A 17-year veteran of the department and licensed nurse practitioner, Barnhill has brought compassion and innovation to the fight against opioid addiction. Through her guidance, the program has provided treatment, support, and hope to countless individuals and families across Jacksonville.
“These honorees embody the best of JFRD, putting others first, acting decisively in emergencies, and serving with integrity,” said Deputy Fire Chief Jacob Blanton. “We are honored to have their work celebrated by our community.”
JFRD is proud of these members’ example for our department and the community. Their service reflects the courage, integrity, and excellence that guide all of Jacksonville’s first responders.
