JFRD Ocean Rescue Lifeguards

Under general supervision, JFRD Lifeguards patrol City beaches, parks, and ocean waters to ensure proactive and expeditious accident prevention and response; respond to City beach and water-related accidents and emergencies; counsels public to encourage compliance with state and local laws, including beach ordinances; maintain lifesaving and other related equipment and facilities; and perform related duties as assigned.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information:
  • Applicants must be 16 years of age upon hire. 
  • All applicants must have a physical from their physician prior to working; successfully pass a city background screening and drug test provided by the city. 
  • Must complete a 500 meter/550 yard swim within 10 minutes in a pool environment to be considered for employment.
  • Must complete a 1-mile run in less than 8 minutes.
  • Must be aquatically adaptable in the ocean/surf.
Licensing/Certification/Registration:
  • Candidates must obtain Lifeguard Certification, First Responder, Open Water Lifesaving, Emergency Responder, and AHA BLS (CPR) for the Health Care Provider.
  • Training will be provided by the City of Jacksonville once selected.
