The training involved 150 personnel who worked with 1,800 gallons of burning LNG during hands-on exercises.
Instructors from JFRD provided classroom instruction and equipment support, while Eagle LNG supplied materials. The Northeast Florida Regional Council coordinated the training, and Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Fire Academy of the South donated classroom space for the sessions.
Firefighters from Nassau, Clay, St. Johns, and Palatka fire departments joined JFRD for the training, alongside industry professionals who work directly with LNG production and transport.
“Training like this is essential in a city like Jacksonville, where LNG plays a major role in our local economy,” said Terrance Holmes, JFRD Chief of Training. “We have plants that produce it and ships that transport it.”
City Council President Kevin Carrico and council members Rahman Johnson and Chris Miller observed the training, emphasizing the city’s commitment to public safety. Carrico and Johnson even bunkered out and tested their skills alongside the crews, gaining firsthand experience with the challenges firefighters face.
This training strengthens regional readiness and reinforces JFRD’s mission to protect lives and property through professionalism, preparation, and partnerships.
