Notice on Burn Ban Enforcement, How to Report a Violation

April 23, 2026
Due to dangerous wildfire conditions across the region, the City of Jacksonville and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) have issued a burn ban effective immediately and are working in partnership with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office to protect people and property. The ban prohibits all open burning within Duval County limits until further notice. Director/Fire Chief Percy Golden II is invoking his authority under Jacksonville Municipal Code Section 420.202(e) to prohibit all bonfires and open burning in Duval County, effective immediately. Current weather conditions present an elevated risk to life and property.
What is banned?
All open burning in Duval County is prohibited. This includes residential burning, recreational fires, fireworks, and commercial land clearing operations.
Any exceptions must be approved on a case-by-case basis by the Director/Fire Chief Golden II.
What is allowed?
  • This ban does not apply to food preparation in enclosed grills or smokers.
  • Flaring waste gases for safety purposes is allowed during the burn ban.
What happens if you violate the ban?
Both residents and businesses can be cited for violations by the City of Jacksonville Environmental Quality Division (EQD) or JFRD. Commercial violators face penalties up to $8,000 per violation. Residential violators face penalties up to $250 per violation. Please note that each day that a violation continues is a separate offense.
