Crews worked through the night to bring each incident under control. One person was transported for treatment, and tragically, one life was lost in the most recent fire. The causes of all five fires are currently under investigation.
Fire danger remains elevated today across Duval County due to low humidity and breezy conditions. While Jacksonville is under a year-round burn ban, these dry conditions mean fires can start and spread quickly. Residents are urged to use caution with any potential ignition sources, including grills, outdoor equipment, and discarded smoking materials.
As cooler temperatures arrive, JFRD reminds everyone to practice safe heating habits indoors. Keep space heaters at least three feet away from anything that can burn, plug them directly into wall outlets, and turn them off before leaving the room or going to sleep. Check smoke alarms to ensure they’re working properly and replace batteries if needed.
“Our hearts are with those affected by last night’s fires,” said Fire Chief Percy Golden II. “We’re asking everyone in the community to take a few extra minutes today to make sure your home and family are safe.”
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department will continue to monitor conditions and encourages residents to remain vigilant and fire aware.
