JFRD Firefighters Rescue Pets from Northside House Fire

March 17, 2026
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department crews responded to a residential structure fire Saturday, March 14, 2026, near Pulaski Road, on the city’s Northside.
Heavy smoke was visible when personnel arrived on scene. Firefighters quickly located a fire in the laundry room and worked to prevent it from spreading throughout the home.

During a search of the structure, firefighters found two pets, a dog and a cat, and carried them outside. Rescue personnel from Station 37 immediately began resuscitation efforts. Both animals were treated on scene, made significant improvement, and survived the conditions inside the home.

Preliminary findings indicate the fire originated in the laundry room area and may have been caused by an electrical malfunction near a clothes dryer. Dryers are among the most common sources of residential fires. Residents are encouraged to clean lint traps regularly and have any electrical issues around appliances inspected promptly.

No injuries were reported to residents or firefighters.
